Today we announced audition dates for HHN 2014 Hollywood. Going to tweet some tips. If you have questions, direct them to @USHAuditions.  OK. Here’s my annual audition tips for anyone wanting to be part of HHN 2014. I do this every year..the “do’s” and “don’ts” of auditoning:

Audition Tips

  • You MUST BE 18 to work for HHN…no exceptions to this rule. Must be 18 by time of employment. Ask @USHAuditions if you have any questions.
  • You do not need to be an ACTOR/ACTRESS to audition for HHN. People come from all walks of life. You just need to love to SCARE!  Being a SCAREACTOR for HHN or any haunt is very physical work. Its like running a marathon. Come to the audition prepared to MOVE!
  • The audition website says 6’2″ is a plus…it is but we are looking for ALL TYPES, SHAPES, SIZES. We have a TON OF ROLES TO CAST!  WE HAVE GREAT ROLES FOR FEMALE SCAREACTORS! Don’t think this is limited to BIG DUDES! If you have a passion to scare, that’s all you need.
  • DO NOT SHOW UP IN COSTUME OR BRING PROPS! We need to see YOU. Save the cosplay for COMIC-CON! PLEASE!!!! Dress NORMAL…for you.
  • Treat your fellow actors, costumers and staff with RESPECT. Backstage performance is as important as on stage to us. Be cool…to everyone.
  • If you auditioned before and didn’t make it, try..try again. Likewise, if you worked for us before you’re not automatically in.  MUST EARN IT.

The Audition Process

  • Auditions are usually done in groups, usually involve some kind of vocalization, movement exercises…it might seem lame but there’s a point.  We’re watching to see if you’re uninhibited, in control of your body & aware of your surroundings. Don’t spazz out! There’s a good reason.  Ever been hit in the head by a chainsaw? I have…It sucks. We need to make sure we can trust you. HHN is carefully choreographed chaos!

Murdy’s Pet Peeves

  • Pet Peeve #1 – I sometimes pop into auditions. Please don’t try to pitch me a creative idea for a maze…I can’t listen to it.  I’m sure you have great ideas but an auditon is for AUDITIONING. Stay focused, listen, and take direction. That’s what you’re there for.
  • Pet Peeve #2. Contrary to popular opinion, you can actually survive without your phone for an extended period of time. TURN YOUR PHONE OFF!

Lastly, I LOVE OUR SCAREACTORS! You are SUPREMELY IMPORTANT to the success of the event. HHN is like a family.  A sick, twisted family.  Over the years our SCAREACTORS have made me so proud. I’m constantly in AWE of what you do night after night, year after year. THANK YOU!!!  HHN is a TEAM SPORT.  There is a reason THE SPURS won the championship this year. GREAT TEAM PLAY.  Come join our team…for HHN 2014!I look forward to working with each and every one of you…we have quite the challenge this year…I NEED ALL YOUR PASSION! BRING IT!
