30 Days of Halloween Horror Nights: What’s the Most Beautiful Scenery You’ve Ever Seen in a House?
This is a tricky question. Should one choose a specific scene from a house, or choose an entire house that’s particularly gorgeous? I guess I should have the answers, seeing as how I’m asking the questions, but feel free to interpret this one however you see fit.
My personal choice is the entirety of 2012’s “Dead End” house: a spectacularly beautiful house that just barely edged out the sublime “Gothic.”
The photos above were taken during one of Universal’s ‘Unmasking the Horror’ tours (which, if you haven’t yet been on, are incredible and highly recommended). With the work lights on the front of the old Hartford Mansion isn’t quite as intimidating, but you can still get an appreciation for the incredible thoughtfulness and craftsmanship that went into the construction of this house.
Check out some of the easily-missed details: a wrought-iron bench rusts in the weeds; a shrouded specter on horseback serves as a weather vane; porch furniture rests on its side, toppled by mischievous children or teens. And that’s just the entrance way! From the parlor to the basement, bathroom to arboretum, “Dead End” is truly one of the most beautiful haunted houses I have ever experienced.
